Dredging & Beach Renourisment to Begin in Carolina & Kure Beach Later This Year

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently seeking bids for maintenance dredging and beach renourishment in Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Bald Head Island.  Per the notice, the work is not to begin before November 16, 2012 and must be completed by April 30, 2013.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District requires a contract to provide Maintenance Dredging, Wilmington Inner Harbor and Carolina Beach and Kure Beach Storm Damage Reduction, New Hanover and Brunswick Counties, North Carolina. The work shall consist of dredging, transporting, placing and shaping beach fill and performing all pre and post construction beach surveys. The borrow area for Carolina Beach is located in Carolina Beach Inlet and the borrow area for Kure Beach is located offshore. Required in place beach fill will be approximately 700,000 cubic yards on Carolina Beach and 400,000 cubic yards on Kure Beach...

All beach work will not begin until 16 November and must be completed by 30 April. Dredging with pipeline dredges will be limited to the period of 16 November through 30 April to comply with the beach disposal window. Hopper dredging will only be allowed from 1 December through 31 March to comply with the environmental window...
