The plans being considered are for an indoor, eight lane - 25M pool with a deep end dive well. Preliminary figures have the price tag at 737,500 which includes a year round dome, locker room/admin facility, and outdoor landscaping.
The current thought is that both construction and annual operating costs can be nearly covered by pool user fees. As of now, the annual pass for families may be as low as just $75. In addition to the annual passes, they expect to pull in additional revenues from visitor passes, scuba diving classes, water aerobics instruction, swim lessons, triathlon training and other special events.
Both Councilmen Steve Shuttleworth and Bob Lewis weighed in on our facebook page and both appeared very much in favor in moving forward with this project. In addition, there was strong support by readers for possibly upgrading the project to a 50M pool which could be used to attract various swimming events to the island. Both councilmen seemed open to this possibility as well. Stay tuned folks...
