ATLANTIC BEACH — Nearly 20 juvenile sea turtles caught a lift out to sea Wednesday with the help of the Coast Guard.
Five sea turtles that have been under the care of the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores were loaded onto the Cutter Staten Island based at Fort Macon for the trip out to sea to be released. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission coordinated the release of 12 others.
For the young loggerheads, it was a free ride 55 miles out to the Gulf Stream, where they would have headed naturally had circumstances not changed their path...
