Revisiting Hurricane Fran 15 Years Later

WRAL has put together an informative collection of their news video coverage of Hurricane Fran's destruction on the NC coast.

Fran came ashore on September 5, 1996 as a category 3 storm with winds up to 115mph and a storm surge up to 13 feet. The wind and flood damage from Fran marked the worst natural economic disaster in North Carolina history with damage estimates at around $5 billion.

26 deaths were reported and approximately 4.5 million people were without power in NC and VA and many had to wait up to 10 days for the power to be restored.
