Some interesting things washed ashore after Hurricane Irene’s path cleared the area.
There were shells of all shapes and sizes, large starfish and – tires.
Old vehicle tires washed up on several North Carolina beaches Saturday and Sunday after the storm knocked them loose from artificial fishing habitat reefs. Sometime in the 1970s the tires were dropped with chains into the ocean to help build the artificial reefs and produce attractive fishing grounds – a practice that has since been discontinued...
