Once a year the US Army Corps of Engineers and Audubon North Carolina take the media out to South Pelican Island. The island is a spoil island located between Fort Fisher and Southport on the Cape Fear River. It is one of 7 islands in the area that is monitored and protected by Audubon North Carolina.
