WECT Reports that Carmike Cinemas Will Open 10 Screen Movie Theater in Myrtle Grove in Summer 2012

WECT is reporting that in Summer 2012, Carmike Cinemas will be opening a ten screen, 1800 seat, 3D movie theater at the Villages at Myrtle Grove off Highway 421 in the Home Depot shopping plaza.

Their featured screen will measure 60 feet wide and be over three stories tall. It will feature the latest in 7.1 surround sound and Digital projection of both 2-D and 3-D features. In technical terms, Carmike's BigD DIGITAL experience is powered by a cutting edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector. Images are projected onto a colossal wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screen. The end result is a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.

This is fantastic news for our part of the county. The theater will be located approximately 8 miles from Carolina Beach and be about 10 minute drive.

[EDIT: Carmike has issued a press release.]
