Make sure to head down to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk this Thursday evening to hear former American Idol contestant Katelyn Marks perform at the Boardwalk gazebo. Katelyn begins performing at 6:30pm and the fireworks will light up the sky starting at around 9:00pm.
Born in Virginia and raised in the Carolinas, this girl knows her music. From her upbringing, she discovered artists such as Faith Hill, Leann Rimes, Patsy Cline, and Shania Twain, all of whom shared a lifelong dream of being a country-recording artist.
Katelyn also realized her commercial potential in August of 2008, when at the age of 19 she auditioned for American Idol in Jacksonville, Florida. After making it to the 4th round in front of judges Randy, Simon, Paula, and Kara, she felt on top of the world. Her determination to catch her dream became a reality as she stepped in front of the cameras. When asked by Simon why she should be the next American Idol, Katelyn’s response was “My goal is to not only be a recording artist, but be a role model to those around me. I want to touch people’s lives with my music.”
After performing at the 2007 GMA Music in the Rockies, in Estes Park, Colorado, Marks attracted the attention of the legendary Nashville-based songwriter and producer Lonnie Wilson. Duly impressed with Marks, Wilson teamed up with her in Nashville to produce her 2008-released self-titled EP. The EP captures stories of heartache, love, and just good-time country anthems. Katelyn said “I want people to be able to relate to who I am and what I've experienced through my music and it seems I’ve got a good start at that with this EP.”
Katelyn has since polished her skills as a country singer/songwriter and has been increasing her fan base and maintaining her presence in the Carolinas.
