The NC Aquarium Pier Initiative in Carolina Beach Faces Tough Budget Hurdles

Here's an excellent article from the Wilmington Star News on the future prospects of the NC Aquarium at Carolina Beach.

As the state continues to face tough budget hurdles, the two remaining Aquarium pier projects (Emerald Island and Carolina Beach) are moved to the back burners. What will the future be? It's just too early to know.

Sketches show a 1,000-foot-long concrete pier stretching into the ocean in Carolina Beach, a project documents say the N.C. Aquariums division is supposed to find a way to fund and build.It all looks good on paper, but there's hardly a handshake to seal the deal.

A signature from a state official is lacking on the memorandum of agreement approved last year by the Carolina Beach Town Council, which essentially spells out how the state and the town will partner on building the state's third aquarium pier...
