Paddle Boarding from FL to ME for a Good Cause

Friends Mike Simpson and Will Rich have undertaken a major challenge that will eventually bring them to our area. The two are attempting to SUP (Stand Up and Paddleboard) up the east coast from Key West, Fla., to Portland, Maine. Their goal is to raise awareness and money for the Wounded Warrior Project, a national nonprofit organization that aids injured military personnel, and Stand Up for a Clean Ocean, an organization based in North Carolina dedicated to removing trash and debris from our marine ecosystems.

Will and Mike departed Key West, Florida on March 1, 2011 and are currently in Charleston, SC. Judging from posts on Facebook, their time in Charleston has been welcome break for the two.

To date, they have had to do battle with severe weather which brought cloud to ground (water) lightening strikes, swarming bugs, grumpy manatees and most recently in Georgia, a curious wild boar. But these minor obstacles have not dampened their spirits as they continue to celebrate all that is exciting about their trip and the wonderful people they are meeting along the way.

As for our area, the two are hoping to be at the Carolina Cup being held on April 30th at Wrightsville Beach.
