On Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher plays host to the 4th Annual Scales & Tails. This two-day event offers the opportunity to see, touch and learn about cold-blooded amphibians and reptiles. Experts will be on hand to explain all about alligators, snakes, iguanas, lizards, and turtles. The event is free with aquarium admission.
On Saturdays from April 2 through May 7, the Pleasure Island Fresh Market will be open. Bring the entire family to the Municipal Marina and shop the produce and other delectable goodies.
Visitors in town on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, will want to come out to the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Center to see some cool cars and trucks at the Back to the Beach Car Show. This family-friendly event will also feature raffles, music, and food and beverage vendors.
The 15th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off on Saturday, April 17, is one of the highlights of the spring on the coast. Savor some of the very best chowder in the area, and after sampling them all, cast a vote for this year’s favorite. This family-friendly event will also feature live music, and a Kidz Zone with face painting, balloon art and a giant inflatable slide. Fun foods like hot dogs, funnel cakes, and fudge will also be available.
Carolina Beach offers the delights of a beach getaway, yet is close to a variety of activities just outside its borders. When staying in Carolina Beach, it’s just a short way to its sister beach, Kure Beach, which is also on Pleasure Island. On April 30, the Kure Beach Street Festival will be in full force, providing a good time for all.
Historic Wilmington is just 15 miles from Carolina Beach. From April 6 through April 10, Wilmington plays host to the NC Azalea Festival. As Wilmington’s stunning azaleas burst into bloom throughout the city, the celebration of Wilmington’s exceptional artwork, gardens, rich history, culture and entertainment gets underway with a parade, street fair, circus, concerts, and pageantry.
