...Keith Morgan is Paragon Building Corporation’s project superintendent for (Carolina Beach's) Snows Cut Boating Access Improvements. The ramp has been out of service several months. Among the most crowded ramps in the state, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission ramp is being renovated to provide more efficient access. Anglers and boaters have become worried that the ramp will not be open in time for spring fishing. While Morgan said the project is behind schedule, the improved access would be worth the wait. It was scheduled to open in February 2011. The revised completion date is March 31.

“We had weather-related problems with snow and rain, as well as soil density problems with the fishing pier pilings,” he said. “We had to put the piers down 31 feet to reach stable soil. The fishing pier is a new feature. It will cantilever two feet over the bulkhead and run 200 feet along the waterway.”

...While the former ramp had just two launching bays, the renovated ramp will have five – two on the north side, two in the middle and one on the south side. The launching bays will be separated by floating docks and there will be docks along the new sheet piling walls...

While the old parking area was sand and gravel, the new parking area will be paved. It will have a tie-down lane and a make-ready lane. Parking spaces will be marked, with 80 spaces for vehicles with boat trailers and 15 spaces for single vehicles...
