Researchers Seeing More Right Whales off SC Coast

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Researchers tracking a nearly extinct right whale population have good news to report from South Carolina's coast.

So far this year, more whales have been spotted -- five.

Researchers with EcoHealth Alliance monitor the whales from planes. The organization is in a partnership with the South Carolina State Ports Authority to monitor the migration of the whales to warmer water.

Five is a good number for researchers given that in the same time period in 2009 only one whale was spotted...
