Carolina Beach will receive $3.3 million – the most of any community in the state – to build two stormwater ponds to help with runoff in the Wilmington Beach area and replace old sewer lines along U.S. 421 through its busy downtown core. And Kure Beach was awarded nearly $620,000 to replace approximately 6,500 feet of sewer line along U.S. 421 around its central business district.
I hear that Tim Owens, Carolina Beach Town Manager, deserves major kudos for spearheading the effort in obtaining this grant money for CB. These are much needed projects and I'm especially pleased to see some forward progress on the Wilmington Beach project. And although it is a grant requirement that work has to begin within weeks of the announcement, one can't complain about summer time construction delays when unexpected funds show up on one's lap. Kudos to all parties involved!!!
