The 2009 Carolina Beach Lifeguard season is underway. Tryout swims will be conducted on March 14th & 28th as the Ocean Rescue program begins staffing for the upcoming season.
Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue now staffs 4.5 Miles of shoreline with 33 seasonal lifeguards and 1 full time position. They operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Monday through Thursday hours are 9:45am until 4:45pm. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are 9:45am until 6:45pm. Some ATV Patrols may exceed the hours listed.
The three miles of beach strand are monitored utilizing 12 fixed lifeguard stands and 3 ATV patrol units. This will be the first season the Freeman Park Area (North End), 1.5 Miles of open beach for vehicular traffic, will be guarded using 5 ATV patrol units and 1 mobile trailer stand. Two Pickups are also used for Freeman Park patrols.
The inlet, harbor, and waters off of the beach strand are patrolled using a PWC with sled and patrol boat operated by the Carolina Beach Police Dept. Carolina Beach's waters and area are also covered by Carolina Beach Fire Dept and Federal Point Fire Dept. A New Hanover Regional Medical Center EMS Station is also located on Carolina Beach with a water rescue vehicle.

The Kure Beach Lifeguards are overseen by the KB Fire Department. As of yet, they have not listed information for the 2009 lifeguard season. Keep track of the town website for future information.
